Ava Kramer, your favorite academic turned dreamer. Ava likes to think she grew up in the film industry. She’s been working since she was 14 as an actress, writer, camera operator, producer, editor etc. Whoever said child labor was dead?
In her projects she loves to play with heightened reality. Why would you go see a movie about real life when you can watch the fantasia ballet sequence from The Red Shoes or travel down into Pan’s Labyrinth? In screenplays, her dialogue is also often heightened and stylized.
Ava graduated UCLA with an English degree; i.e. she’s studied stories in probably the most classical way you can. The romantic era was her poison of choice during college; you know, that time in history when everyone was revolting. And let me tell you, those 19th century, Tuberculosis-riddled poets really radicalized the poor girl. Now she can’t help but try and revolutionize everything she does. It's gorgeous.
In terms of genre, she loves psychological horror and dark comedy. Her favorite directors are Paul Thomas Anderson and the dynamic duo, Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger. If you combined Anderson’s dark humor and psychological plots with Powell & Pressburger’s surrealist style, you’d get the films she dreams of making.
