Lore Drop

No, it's not a reference to Radiohead's "Spectre." We're not cool enough for that. Spectre's actually a William Blake reference. You know, that schizo Romantic poet you might've heard about once in an English class
Blake, who was virtually unknown during his lifetime, handmade all his books, bound and pressed them at his home with his wife; thousands of pages of his own poetry and artwork.
An, anti-industrialist, Blake refused to publish his work in any traditional way; through a publishing house or printing press.
“I must create a system, or be enslaved by another man's.” Is one of his most famous quotes.
Today, Blake’s work stands as a symbol of self-generation; an artist unbound by any social or industrial system.
Spectre Productions is a company that endeavors to do the same; to work outside the traditional boundaries of the studio system; a company that is completely self generating.
(To be honest, it’s all very socialist, but I know that’s a turn off for some people, so we’ve coated it in the veneer of Romantic poetry)
Spectre, puts an emphasis on art for arts sake. Everything we make is self-generated and indie. We don’t believe you need millions to make something entertaining and impactful.
AND NOTHING WE MAKE WILL EVER USE AI OR AI GENERATED CONTENT.

WHAT IS A SPECTRE?
Now, if you want the real lore about what the hell a Spectre is, here you go, but lock in cause its long and complicated and wordy…
In his lifetime, Blake also created his own mythology.
In Blake’s mythology, The Spectre is a reoccurring figure. Usually a fragmented part of a human soul. A cooler horcrux if you will.
In Blake's epic poem, Jerusalem, Los, the creative spirit of man, is tormented by his own Spectre as he attempts to build a utopia. He spews doubt at Los and questions his work.
Now here's where it gets tripy. Los’ Spectre holds all his negative, vice like traits; traits he’s deemed as immoral or unsavory; traits he's, quite literally, separated from himself. It’s a representation of how often we, as people, separate ourselves from instincts and characteristics deemed socially unacceptable; doubt, pride, despair etc.
It isn’t until Los accepts the Spectre as a part of himself that he can continue his work.
A human life, a human soul is much more complicated than “good” and “bad.” The Spectre is a character that reminds us of that. A piece of humanity that complicates things. If this is starting to sound cult-y, GREAT, that means I’m finally putting my English degree to good use.
In Blake’s eyes, creative projects aren’t complete unless they are complicated. In the same way a human soul is complicated. And you can’t really make complicated art by working in industrial systems intent on streamlining, steaming, and flattening every step of assemblage.
Now this literary drama is cool and all, but honestly Spectre was started by a group of friends who just really love each other and wanted to make art together.
Full disclosure, we also chose the name Spectre cause it’s a play on spectator, and that’s…what you do…when you watch a film…so yeah we thought that was cool too. None of you are reading this anyway, are you. No one comes to the about page. Jesus Christ.
END.
